N-responsive germination in single and double mutants. Thirty seeds each of the wild-type (Ws2) and all three mutants, gpa1-5, gcr1-5 and gpa1-5gcr1-5, were surface sterilized and stratified at 4 °C in dark for 48 h. These seeds were placed on 1X B5 agar plates supplemented with different concentrations of KNO₃ as shown for optimal (A), low (B) and high (C) dose of nitrate. The plates were transferred to growth chambers maintained at 22 ± 1 °C and after 12 h germination was monitored at every 3 h until 72 h. The data are plotted as a percentage of germinated seeds along with standard error bars. The data was statistically analysed using ANOVA in the GraphPad Prism 6.0 (*P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001).
