N-responsive germination in single and double mutants. Thirty seeds each of the wild-type (Ws2) and all three mutants, gpa1-5, gcr1-5 and gpa1-5gcr1-5, were surface sterilized and stratified at 4 °C in dark for 48 h. These seeds were placed on 1X B5 agar plates supplemented with different concentrations of KNO3 as shown for optimal (A), low (B) and high (C) dose of nitrate. The plates were transferred to growth chambers maintained at 22 ± 1 °C and after 12 h germination was monitored at every 3 h until 72 h. The data are plotted as a percentage of germinated seeds along with standard error bars. The data was statistically analysed using ANOVA in the GraphPad Prism 6.0 (*P < 0.05, **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001).
