Table 1.

Total number of influenza A positive samples and number of HA/NA sequences analyzed in this study. Influenza surveillance data submitted from 14 countries in MENA region (2009–2017) were obtained from WHO FluNet online database. For evolution analysis, complete HA and NA sequences from pH1N1 and H3N2 viruses were downloaded from Influenza Research Database (IRD)-NCBI. Accession numbers of all vaccine strains are provided in Additional file 1: Table S1
