Candidalysin regulates the host endothelial FGF-2 response. (a) HUVECs were challenged with BWP17 + CIp30 (WT), ece1△/△, ece1△/△ + ECE1, or ece1△/△ + ECE1△184-279 for 24 h. FGF-2 levels were measured using ELISA. One-way ANOVA was significant (p = 0.001). Dunnett’s multiple comparison demonstrated that compared to the uninfected group (Mock), only HUVECs challenged with BWP17 + CIp30 or ece1△/△ + ECE1 showed a statistically significant increase in the FGF-2 response (p < 0.05), as indicated by (*). (b) HUVECs were treated with vehicle control (water) or Candidalysin peptide for 24 h.
