Group 1: Contract: The husband agrees to take disulfiram (Antabuse) daily and the wife observes and records it. In return she agrees not to mention any past drinking or any fears about future drinking. Couple counselling stressing goodwill and caring behaviours. Group 2: Couple counselling with catharsis, ventilation, sharing of feelings. Group 3: No marital treatment.
Outcomes Satisfaction with the programme, ability to solve problems and adherence to sessions.
