Hong Kong 1995.

Methods Randomised controlled trial. Random allocation to treatment randomisation schedule stratified by Barthel Index score. Randomisation sequence generated from random number tables. Allocation method concealed (opaque sealed envelopes) held in an office at Shatin Hospital.
Unclear if outcome assessor was blinded.

 Clinical definition of stroke 
 Percentage of patients scoring less than or equal to 15 on the Barthel Index at baseline, 82% 
 Patients were recruited if unable to discharge home after one week as an inpatient following stroke onset. 
 Inclusion criteria: > 65 years; clinical diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident; no previous history of stroke; no history of dementia; resident within catchment area; Barthel score < 20.
Interventions Multidisciplinary team with day hospital facilites and multidisciplinary approach vs medical follow‐up as outpatients.
Outcomes Outcomes were recorded at 3/ 6 months:
