Figure 1

Formation of syncytia in VeroE6 cells stably expressing porcine aminopeptidase N (VeroE6-APN) expressing porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) S derived from YN144 and G2. (A) VeroE6-APN cells were transfected with pCAGGS expressing SYN144 with or without the C-terminal motifs (SYN144ΔERRS). Cells were cultured in the presence or absence of trypsin (2 µg/mL). Syncytium formation was evaluated under a light microscope at 24 h post transfection (hpt). Arrows denote syncytium formation. Scale 100 µm. (B) VeroE6-APN cells were transfected with pCAGGS expressing SG2 with or without the C-terminal motifs (SG2ΔERRS). Cells were cultured in the presence of trypsin (2 µg/mL), and the syncytium formation was assessed at 24 hpt. Scale 100 µm.
