S1-8 –Sagittal schema of the brain (lateral 0.4 mm; according to [25]) showing the 8 sections (S1-S8) performed in 4 rats. The sections extended from bregma +1.20 mm to bregma -13.24 mm and were analyzed for the distributions of the cells. The iNOS-positive astrocytes and microglial cells are mainly located in periventricular structures and basal parts of the brain. The cerebral cortex remains devoid of iNOS-positive astrocytes and microglial cells (S4, S5, S6, S7 and S8).
