Intracellular NO levels remained unchanged in SIN-1-treated cells and in cells treated with uric acid (UA) + SIN-1 compared to control IEC-18 cells, demonstrating that the altered effect seen in Na-amino acid co-transport by SIN-1 treatment is due to the combination of the nitric oxide and superoxide derivative OONO and not due to the intermediates alone.
