(A) Glass-adherence in the absence (sucrose-independent) and presence of 1% sucrose (sucrose-dependent) was assessed by measuring turbidity at 600 nm after adding 0.5 M NaOH to reflect the number of adhered cells of Streptococcus mutans UA159. (B) Plastic-adherence in the presence of 1% sucrose (sucrose-dependent) was assessed at different time points by measuring absorbance of released CV dye at 595 nm from cells to reflect the number of adhered cells. Control– 0.1% DMSO, 10-UDYA– 10-undecynoic acid, # p<0.05, * p<0.001 compared to representative controls.
