(A) Illustration of the developing mouse neocortex. At E8.5 till E10.5 the tissue is hypoxic, harboring mainly the apical progenitors (RGCs, gray) that come from neuroepithelial cells. PNVP is already established during this time. PVP ingression occurs, decreasing the hypoxia, around E11.5 onwards and is followed by generation of other cell types like Tbr2+ BP (yellow) and neurons (blue) by asymmetric divisions of the RGCs.
