Heatmap of the relative abundances of bacterial taxa found in cervical microbiota of 87 South African reproductive-age women. Rows represent the bacterial taxa (sorted by classification) and columns the samples. The colour key for the relative abundances is indicated in the upper right corner. The human papillomavirus (HPV) and high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection status as well as bacterial vaginosis (BV) findings of the women are indicated. The dendrogram based on average linkage hierarchical clustering of the Bray-Curtis dissimilarity matrix is shown and was used to define the eight community state types (CSTs). Except for L. gasseri and L. reuteri, each with 0.03% relative abundance, the other 30 bacterial taxa included had ≥0.33% relative abundance.
