Titer of viable cells present in 24 h DSM cultures of each sporeformer fish isolate (codes in x axis) before (grey, total cells) and after (blue, sporulating or heat resistant cells) a 20 min heat treatment at 80 °C. Sporulation was induced by nutrient exhaustion in liquid Difco Sporulation Medium (DSM) at 37 °C, 150 rpm. Numbers on top of the panel correspond to the percentages (%) of sporulation calculated as the ratio between sporulating cells and total cells. Bacillus subtilis 168 was used as control and the results are the average of three independent experiments with error bars representing the standard deviation.
