The 30-day risk-adjusted skilled nursing facility rehospitalization measure and adjusted successful discharge to the community follow the American Health Care Association methodology (22,24), and Nursing Home Compare Five Star Quality Rating System is designed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (25). There are 33 different demographic and clinical variables included in the risk adjustment model for the rehospitalization measure. Similarly, the discharge measure is risk adjusted using 59 demographic and clinical variables. The overall star rating of is based on facility performance for health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.
