Trial name or title Rapid Intervention with Glyceryl trinitrate in Hypertensive stroke Trial‐2 (RIGHT‐2)
Methods Prospective multicentre single‐blind randomised controlled trial
Participants 850 participants
Inclusion: FAST positive test, BP ≥ 120 mmHg, presenting to ambulance service following a 999 emergency call
Time to randomisation: within 4 hours of onset
Interventions Treatment: transdermal GTN patch 5 mg once daily
Control: sham patch
(Blinding with gauze dressing over patch)
Duration: 4 days
Outcomes Primary: mRS at 90 days
Secondary:
  • Hospital admission: NIHSS; systolic BP, DBP, HR; stroke lesion size on CT

  • Day 2‐4: systolic BP, diastolic BP, HR; NIHSS; recurrent stroke; death; hypotension; neurological deterioration (NIHSS ≥ 4 points or ≥ 2 point increase in any domain)

  • Discharge/death: length of stay; patient disposition

  • Day 90 and 365: mRS; BI; EQ‐5D, EQ‐VAS; MMSE; TICS‐M; animal naming; Zung Depression Scale; stroke recurrence
