Selection of articles used to prepare this review paper. First of all, we searched PubMed for articles containing the word “lead” and the name of a given family of waterbirds in abstract, title or keywords. The paper was based on selected data, i.e. excluding incomplete data, those concerning other areas of research or found in previous papers. The fewest articles concerned the concentration of lead in waterbird bones, and the largest number was on the concentration of lead in feathers and the livers
