Demethylation of DNA using resonant high-power THz radiation. (a) The measurements of the degree of demethylation using the THz-TDS and the ELISA method. (b) Demethylation of blood cancer DNA using the resonant high-power THz radiation. The types of blood cancer cell lines were the same as those used in the experiment associated with Fig. 1d. The degree of methylation is mostly in good agreement between the THz (red bar) and ELISA (blue bar) results, which was normalized to compare the results of both techniques. The ratio of reduction ranged from approximately 10% to 70%, depending on the type of cell line. The THz-TDS results were obtained by the average of three independent waveforms taking a mean value of three measurements at a point. The ELISA results were obtained by averaging values from three different measurements. Each measurement was performed twice and averaged. The standard deviations are THz-TDS < 0.071 and ELISA < 0.108.
