All stage gametocyte positivity was determined by RT-LAMP targeting the pan-gametocyte marker, Pfs16, whereas mature gametocyte carriers were identified by Pfs25-based RT-PCR. Similarly, positivity for P. falciparum asexual stages was determined by RT-LAMP targeting the asexual stage-specific marker, PfExp1.
