Bone mass acquisition during childhood. Up to 25% of peak bone mass accrual occurs during adolescence with subsequent bone loss in later life. Suboptimal lifestyle factors (which may include childhood obesity in adolescence) have an impact on bone mass accrual and peak bone mass increasing fracture risk and osteoporosis later in life.
