The standard deviation of the noise, σn decreases with M (a), while the ratio σn(M=1)/σn(M=128) decrease with R (inset in a). The signal, Id expresses the opposite behavior and increases with M (b). The total intensity IT=2σn2+Id received by all channels approaches 1 [inset in (b)]. The maximum improvement in Id is observed for R4×4. Larger block sizes lead to a decrease in IT.
