Trial name or title	Investigating the Role of Early Intravenous Immunoglobulin Treatment for Children with Encephalitis (IgNiTE).
Methods	Multicentre, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, randomised controlled trial of IVIG versus placebo in addition to standard care.
Participants	308 children with encephalitis, aged 6 weeks to 16 years.
Interventions	IVIG 1 g/kg/dose + standard care vs placebo + standard care for 2 days.
Outcomes	Primary outcome: good recovery (score ≤ 2) on the Glasgow Outcome Score Extended (Pediatric version).
Starting date	January 2016.
