Associations of body mass index and serum concentrations (collagen type 2 cleavage product : collagen type 2 C-propeptide) between women (circles) and men (triangles). After controlling for International Knee Documentation Committee Index score, greater body mass index was moderately associated with greater collagen turnover in women (partial r25 = 0.50, P = .008). For men, we found a negligible and nonsignificant association between greater body mass index and greater collagen turnover (r = 0.075, P = .8).
