Methods Parallel, randomised, controlled, clinical trial (RCT)
Randomisation ratio: 1:1
Participants Condition: waist circumference ≥ 100 cm or HbA1c ≥ 6.0%
Enrollment: 3600
Inclusion criteria: waist circumference ≥ 100 cm or HbA1c ≥ 6.0%; South Asian, 40‐70 years
Interventions Intervention: intensive lifestyle modification
Comparator: usual care
Duration of the intervention: assume 1 year
Outcomes Primary outcome(s): incidence of T2DM and > 7% reduction in weight
Secondary outcome(s): reduction of ≥ 5 cm waist circumference and health gains in family members
Other outcome(s): identifying social, demographic and environmental factors influencing primary and secondary outcomes
Notes Protocol for an ongoing trial. Unknown if data would be presented for the participants included based on moderately elevated HbA1c. Duration of the intervention might be too short for inclusion in this review
