(1)–(3) Distance to the electron optical axis as function of position along the optical axis for release times of (1) 820 fs, (2) 960 fs, and (3) 1090 fs. The electrons are injected at x = −100 μm with a velocity of 1 × 108 m/s and are converging to a 200 nm crossover between the deflector plates located at x = 0 μm. The colors of the rays indicate the different release times, in the right panel, which shows the amount of electrons transmitted through the blanker aperture as function of release time. An electron is transmitted through the aperture when the exit angle is larger than the half opening angle of the beam. In the simulations, a bunch of electrons is injected every 10 fs.
