Model for the role of Nup84 in the DNA damage response. In non-replicating cells, Nup84 is important for efficient repair by nucleotide excision repair (NER). Part of this function is mediated by the correct localization of the Ulp1 SUMO protease at the nuclear pore. In replicating cells, Nup84 is required for the appropriate regulation of homologous recombination and DNA damage tolerance pathway therewith ensuring error-free repair by SCR and replication progression.
