Ranson’s Criteria
At admission/diagnosis Age > 55
White blood cell count > 16 000 per mm3
Blood glucose > 200 mg/dL
Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) > 350 IU/L
Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) > 250 IU/L
During initial 24 hours Hematocrit decrease > 10%
Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) increase > 5 mg/dL
Serum calcium < 8 mg/dL
Base deficit > 4 mmol/L
PaO2 < 60 mmHg
Bedside Index of Severity in Acute Pancreatitis (BISAP)
Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) > 25 mg/dL
Abnormal mental status with Glasgow coma scale < 15
Evidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS)
Age > 60
Pleural effusion
