(a) Control cell ultrastructurally unchanged with a large lacy nucleus, well‐developed endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex and mitochondria. (b) Insulin (10 nm) stimulates mitochondria to form a complex tubular network (multiple cross‐sections of mitochondria). (c) Effect of LY294002 (20 µm) being present 30 min prior to insulin (10 nm) addition abrogates insulin‐mediated effects on mitochondria.
