Cholesterol esterification in PBMC from G6PD‐normal and ‐deficient subjects. Cells were cultured and grown as described in the legend to Fig. 1. The [¹⁴C]‐oleate was added to the culture medium for 6 h and cells harvested at the times indicated. [¹⁴C]‐oleate incorporation into esterified cholesterol was determined as described in Materials and Methods. Each value represents the mean ± SD of five separate experiments. G6PD‐deficient cells at all times showed a significant difference (**P < 0.001) compared with normal G6PD.
