(B) The positions of 17 SNPs referring to different genes selected from the top 40 genes having a high number of disease associations (Price et al., 2015) in the SOM are indicated by arrows. Accumulation of these genes in the spot areas is indicated by dashed circles. The profiles of selected SNPs reveal a population-specific enrichment of minor-allelic scores. (C) Mean allele profiles of the SNPs collected in each of the spots are shown as barplots. Each of the spots refers to a different profile. (D) Part of the spots can be assigned to one geographic region while ‘mixed’ spots show enrichment of minor alleles in populations from more than one region (see also the mean portraits in Figure 2A).
