Polyclonal carcinoembryonic antigen (pCEA) immunostaining. pCEA cross‐reacts with biliary glycoprotein and is reactive in the canaliculi of benign and malignant hepatocytes. Thus, it is a very strong marker of hepatocellular differentiation, as no other cell type has canaliculi. When nontumorous liver is present in a biopsy or resection, it serves as a useful control.
