Capsaicin induces apoptosis of human melanoma cells. (A) Following treatment with three concentrations of capsaicin for 24 h, the cells were incubated with FITC-conjugated Annexin V/PI and apoptosis induction was analyzed by flow cytometry. (B) Quantification of the apoptosis rates of melanoma cells following capsaicin treatment. The histograms indicate the proportion of apoptotic cells from three separate experiments. (C) Cells were treated with various concentrations of capsaicin (50, 100 and 200 µM) for 24 h. Western blotting was used to analyze the expression levels of the apoptosis-associated proteins cleaved PARP and caspase-3. *P<0.05, **P<0.01 compared with the control group.
