The integral of the measured LDOS from Fig. 5 (blue x’s) below the Fermi level gives the total particle occupation, which matches that found from a direct measurement of n, the occupation number, from the numerical calculation of the ground state (green line). The formation of a steady state current then provides not only a measure of the occupied and unoccupied states but also yields the real space occupation. The error bars represent the propagated error from the broadening and standard deviation as in the previous figures.
