Birth trauma
  • Fractured skull, haematoma, cerebral haemorrhage

  • Fractured clavicle, facial paralysis, brachial plexus injury

Perinatal asphyxia
  • Low Apgar score (less than 7) at five minutes

  • Cord blood acidosis

  • Need for major resuscitation (respiratory support, intubation at birth)

  • Hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy
