(A) Electronic Comparator. A comparator compares the intensity of two input signals, producing a digital output that is on when V₂ is larger than V₁ and off when V₂ is smaller than V₁. (B) Biological Comparator. The comparator compares the intensity of two input inducer signals (Arabinose & IPTG), turning on when the arabinose concentration is sufficiently higher than the IPTG concentration, and off when the arabinose concentration is sufficiently lower than the IPTG concentration.
