The HPLC elution profile of the post-reaction mixture (2-amino-6-chloropurine riboside reacting with chloroacetaldehyde). Based on UV and fluorescence spectra, the peak at 17 min was identified as guanine, at 30 min as N2,3-ethenoguanine (2), at 32 min as 1,N2-ethenoguanine (1), and that of 46 min as 1,N2-ethenoguanosine. A small amount of the starting substance, 2-amino-6-chloropurine riboside, is not envisioned (retention time >50 min).
