Trial name or title	Closed loop ventilation strategy in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients
Methods	Randomized controlled trial
Participants	Adults intubated and mechanically ventilated ICU patients for more than 24 hours. Patients receiving ventilation via tracheostomy will be excluded
Interventions	Intervention: Adaptive Support Ventilation according to the patients ideal body weight Control: Pressure Controlled Ventilation (6‐8 ml/kg tidal volume) according to our ICU protocol
Outcomes	Duration of mechanical ventilation
