SCFA levels in the colon content of the SPF mice fed a diet containing a non-degradable and -fermentable fiber source. Specific pathogen-free mice were fed for two weeks either a chow diet containing a grain–soybean-based crude fiber extract (5%), or an experimental control diet with 5% purified cellulose instead of crude fiber.
