All measurements were carried out in toluene (containing 1% by volume of pyridine for the template-free nanorings to suppress aggregation). Fluorescence lifetimes were measured using excitation at 810 nm and detection at 1050 nm. Fluorescence quantum yields were measured using THS-l-P6[b5]-THS as a standard.17 Radiative rates are calculated as krad = Φff.
