Male BALB/c mice were infected with 5 × 104 insect-derived metacyclic forms of T. cruzi within the oral cavity. NI or OI sera were obtained by cardiac puncture and used to measure levels of D-dimer by ELISA. The mean and SEM of animals with detectable levels of D-dimer were 25.7 ± 7.59 and 45.1 ± 11.0 for 14 and 21 dpi, respectively.
