Methods Alternate allocation.
Participants 218 consecutive women attending a venereal disease clinic in Bournemouth, England.
Abstinence from sexual intercourse was advised.
Interventions Metronidazole 200 mg 3 times daily by mouth for 7 days versus nimorazole 250 mg 12 hourly for 6 days.
Contact slips were issued for male partners of all women requesting them to attend the clinic within 24 hours and they were given the same treatment if they attended.
Outcomes Parasitological and clinical cure. Side effects.
Notes Diagnosis by wetmount and culture.
Follow up on days 7, 14, 28, and 42.
Loss to follow up 21/218 (9.6%) in total with 9/109 in metronidazole and 12/109 in nimorazole groups.
