According to Kauer (1974), the scaphoid (S; green) shifts proximally with respect to the lunate (L; blue) during wrist flexion due to the different curvatures of the scaphoid and lunate bone surfaces (lateral view). Furthermore, the joint space narrows during wrist flexion caused by the palmar scapholunate interosseous ligament (red lines) visible in the palmar view.
