Hemocyte phagocytic index in adult female and male mosquitoes following various larval treatments. Larvae were left unmanipulated (naïve), injured, injected with heat‐killed E. coli or microspheres, or infected with E. coli, Enterobacter sp., or S. aureus. Five days after eclosion, the female and male adults were infected with E. coli, and the percentage of hemocytes that had phagocytosed E. coli was determined 1 hr later.
