Analysis of serum for assessing oxidant and anti-oxidant stress. At the time of surgery, levels of serum reactive oxygen metabolites, total anti-oxidant capacity and the oxidative-INDEX did not significantly differ between the groups. At sacrifice, while levels of serum reactive oxygen metabolites did not significantly differ between the groups, serum total anti-oxidant capacity was significantly decreased, and the oxidative-INDEX was increased in PTH rats compared to OVX rats. *P < 0.05.
