From a univariate regression model, the predicted shedding rate for those off ART was 24% (95% CI 15–39%), for those just initiating ART was 38% (95% CI 28–53%), and for those on ART 50 months was 13% (95% CI 8–19%). The rate of HSV shedding among persons on established ART decreased, in a relative sense, by 2% for each subsequent month on treatment (or 23% over each year of use).
