Estrogen mediates ubiquitination of prohibitin. (A) Estrogen (1nM) slightly increases prohibitin mRNA level, which is determined by real time PCR, while the protein level is elevated by estrogen stimulation (B). (C) Estrogen enhances the stability of prohibitin protein. Ishikawa cells were treated with 100ng/ml of cycloheximide (CHX) for the indicated times before 1nM estrogen treatment for 48 hrs. Prohitin protein levels were determined by western blot assay. (D) Estrogen treatment reduces the ubiquitination of prohibitin protein.
