Immunopanned rat astrocytes gradually mature in serum‐free media. (a) Identification of astrocyte maturation markers by RNA‐seq. We performed RNA‐seq of acutely purified human astrocytes at the immature (18‐week gestation) and mature (8–63 years old) stages (Zhang, Sloan, et al., 2016) and identified six of the top differentially expressed genes at the immature and mature stages. FPKM, fragment per kilobase of transcripts per million mapped reads. (b) Immunopanned rat astrocytes gradually matured in serum‐free media. We performed qRT‐PCR to determine the expression of maturation marker genes by rat astrocytes grown in serum‐free media at 0, 7, and 14 div. The expression level was first normalized to the house‐keeping gene Gapdh and then normalized to the expression at 0 div
