The center of the disc has gelatinous nucleus pulposus (NP) cells, surrounded by annulus fibrosus (AF) and located between cartilaginous endplate (EP). EP is adjacent to the growth plate (GP) of the vertebra. Spinal nerves are on the lateral side of the disc.
