Scheme of microvascular angioarchitecture dilation for the calculus of dispersion in the volume. An initial angioarchitecture is shown by image rendering in panel A. The spatial dispersion of all the vessels is calculated from dilation of the initial image following a rhombicuboctahedral scheme. Panels BO represent different steps of dilation until occupancy of at least 95% of the total volume. The total number of single steps needed to reach 95% occupancy is defined as the Hv 95% index. When comparing different samples, normalization for an equal percent amount of input voxels was performed as described in the Materials and Methods section in order to obtain the final index called nHv 95% value.
