DNA fragmentation induced by cytosolic extracts from sham control, injured, and contralateral (CL) rat cortex and hippocampus. Cytosolic extracts from injured brain tissues were isolated at indicated times after TBI; extracts fromCL tissues were isolated 72 hr after TBI. Nuclei from rat normal liver were incubated with extracts, and their DNA was analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis, as described in Materials and Methods. Data are representative of three separate experiments with similar results. The standard DNA fragments (MW) represent a 1 kb DNA ladder.
