Reduction of postsynaptic responsiveness to GABA. Gravity-driven introduction of 10 μm GABA for 2 sec (horizontal solid bars) at 5 min intervals through a multibarreled tube positioned <200 μm from the CA1 region elicited inward-directed GABA_A receptor-mediated current in voltage-clamped (−60 mV) CA1 pyramidal cells (left). This response was attenuated by a 15 min perfusion of 50 ng/ml BDNF (middle). More than 30 min of washout of BDNF was necessary for the recovery (right), but it was incomplete.
