Proportions of putative magnocellular and parvocellular neurons in the PVN that responded synaptically to glutamate microstimulation are provided for each of the presynaptic sites of the three slice planes. Numbers of cells responding with PSPs are greater than the total numbers of responsive cells in the horizontal and parasagittal planes (see text), because some cells responded to glutamate microstimulation at more than one site. Numbers of cells in which confirmed IPSPs were recorded are given in parentheses.
